Media Words

Illustration this is when a music promo illustrates exactly what is being said in the song. They take the lyrics and work with all of them

Amplification- When a video just takes one key idea/theme from the song. This could just be one like of the lyrics and showing it in the music promo. An example of this is Coldplays “Scientist” where they use the line “Take me back to the start” for the theme of the music video

Disjuncture-This is the complete opposite to Illustration when an artist decides to Ignore the song’s meaning or concept completely. So they create a music video that’s completely different, unrelated to show the song. This can often be designed to confuse the audience. (not typical)

Intertextuality- When an artist takes an/few ideas from an exsisting text and showing it in the music promo. e.g. Robbie Williams in 'Let me entertain you' has make-up like the band Kiss
