Music Channels

MTV
Formally named as Music Television, is a american cable television channel based in New York city in 1981, the purpose is broadcast music videos guilded by on air host. Showing the new and excitting music in this weeks charts, they try to  showcase wide range of views and different genres of music, this channel therefore played a range of different genres as well as chart based music, it also broadcasts a range of television shows. It does now however focus more on the broadcasting of these tv shows than it does of the music. MTV has been around for a large number of years, and so has become quite an influential station and one of the most well knowns, it has however been criticised over the years for devaluing the importance of music.

4MUSIC
This Tv chanel plays up to date chart music, however it does play a larger range of genres.It has a huge following with the largest monthly numbers. It is available in the UK however it is available on some digital television providers. Due to the latest tend of social networks its has Facebook and Twitter pages this builds popularitly and following. This channel also has the rights to broadcast most summer festivals and through links with sister channels hosts it own, 'T4 on the Beach'.

VIVA
Was formly known as TMF, which stands for The Music Factory, launched in the UK in 2002. But due to adopting and changing to the music industy it became more current and needed a new logo/name to represent that. Viva, which launched in Germany in 1993 and is also present in Austria, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland, will occupy the same channel slots on Freeview, Sky Digital and Virgin Media currently occupied by TMF. Viva which offers comedy, entertainment and music programming instead of just deadicated to music it will also feature shows such as
 The Hills, Southpark and Two and a Half Men, as well as established music programming.
