Music Institution

Song Music Entertainment
Sony is the UKs largest global entertainment and music compnaies. omposing of the most historic and important recordings, it also offers a wide array of local and international superstars. Sony music is fully owned by the Sony company-American
Artists like Kings of Leon, The Script, Foo Fighters and Justin Timberlake have all signed to this music instituion. Because of the range of variety of artists that are signed they have become the biggest music institution in the world.
They also own a label called Bertelsmann Music group--BMG it is considered the third largest music publisher in the world. It was the the biggest independent before selling over its assets to Sony Music. I think that this would be the best possible music institution for our band as they would have huge oppurtunities, as they are global known for producing the best talent. They would have creative freedom, which would allow them to make the music they want to.

Universal music Group
UMG is the worlds leading music company and is made up of two different parts one is the recorded music and the other is music publishing. The reason why that are so popular is the pure diverse range of music they take on--they don't limit themselves on a particular music genre as other smaller companies do they branch out to new and excitting styles of music. The UMG is made up of smaller companies Mecury Records, AM records, Universal Motown Republic group and Polydor Records to just name a few. There are many different artists include--All-Amercian Rejects, Duffy and La Roux which you can see clearly show the different genres. Althoug this is a global company that has thousands of employees, they do have a keen passion for producing good music. For our band/song i dont think it would really fit in with there image of making organic music that is from the heart, it would turn to be too manufactured.

Media Pitches

These are the slides of our media pitch about the intial ideas we had about making a music video, it includes the chosen band-DanceGrenade, a local group, that we are friends with, that create good, fun music. We let the class listen to the song we had picked from the Dance Grenade selection-Korma Chamerleon. This allowed us to the an idea of what the whole class thought of the song, whether it was popular or hated. This also helped them get an understanding of why we came up with the ideas we did. Idea 1 came from discussion with the band, they were really inspired by the band Ok Go, with there unique, light hearted spin on music-not taking themselves too seriously was a certain theme we wanted to include in our music video for band. So we looked at the End of love video which featured stop motion, bright colours, humour and fun. We hope that we could  include these elements in our music video. Idea 2 took influence from the lyrics of the song more, with the themes of the togetherness, friendship and spending the night with good people and good music. As its approching novemeber we really liked the idea of including fireworks, bonefires, parties, dancing. Not only would this look visally appealing on screen but it was a clear relation to the feeling of the song.
We really like both ideas and through discussion with the rest of the class, we came up with a potential idea that could conbime all three elements to make a truely excitting and creative music video that no only represents the band but the song too. It was a really worth wait experiences as it made us as a group feel passion and excited to get developing our ideas.

Music Channels

MTV
Formally named as Music Television, is a american cable television channel based in New York city in 1981, the purpose is broadcast music videos guilded by on air host. Showing the new and excitting music in this weeks charts, they try to  showcase wide range of views and different genres of music, this channel therefore played a range of different genres as well as chart based music, it also broadcasts a range of television shows. It does now however focus more on the broadcasting of these tv shows than it does of the music. MTV has been around for a large number of years, and so has become quite an influential station and one of the most well knowns, it has however been criticised over the years for devaluing the importance of music.

4MUSIC
This Tv chanel plays up to date chart music, however it does play a larger range of genres. It has a huge following with the largest monthly numbers. It is available in the UK however it is available on some digital television providers. Due to the latest tend of social networks its has Facebook and Twitter pages this builds popularitly and following. This channel also has the rights to broadcast most summer festivals and through links with sister channels hosts it own, 'T4 on the Beach'.

VIVA
Was formly known as TMF, which stands for The Music Factory, launched in the UK in 2002. But due to adopting and changing to the music industy it became more current and needed a new logo/name to represent that. Viva, which launched in Germany in 1993 and is also present in Austria, Hungary, Poland and Switzerland, will occupy the same channel slots on Freeview, Sky Digital and Virgin Media currently occupied by TMF. Viva which offers comedy, entertainment and music programming instead of just deadicated to music it will also feature shows such as
The Hills, Southpark and Two and a Half Men, as well as established music programming.

Tester for Stop Motion

The first test we did as a group was test motion, this was a key technique that we wanted to figure out how it works, the affect and whether it was easy to include in our music video. We tried to perform each movement on burst/sports mode which worked--so we took a photo every1/2 seconds to try and capture every sight bit of movement. It was a more different that we first thought, as if the camera changed angle/position even a little it didn't work, it became disjointed and not a fluid as we wanted. It was hard for Me and Emily in the video to stay in the same spot for the entire movement as we had to keep stoping and starting. The use of the tripod and keeping in the same place did help, but i think that with more practise and learning from our mistakes, we hope to include a little part of this technique in our music video--but as it is an affect that takes a long time to get perfect and if it is right it looks rubbish. So i think we really need to think about what types and location if we wanted to include stop motion.
The second test we put it onto the same mode but did the routine all through  instead of stoping and starting so it only took 2 shots to do the full routine. This was more successful so when we come to do our stop motion part of the production we will do it in this sort of way.

Results of Questionnaires

This is a video of the people who have a range of different music tastes and influences, giving us a varied view of the music video industry, this will help us from the start to get creative and unique ideas going instead of just sticking to the conventional. Everyone gave different answers which really helped us think what elements do we want to take from this research and apply to our music video
From the results of the Questionnaires and the interviews, the information we learnt
as a group made us think about  the needs and wants of our potential audience. We hope to use to key images/representation that people got from the song as a starting point for example we want to explour the idea of featuring a live performance shots along with a narrative. Our potential ideas for this relate to the answer of "What's you're favourite music video" the reply Ok Go End Love which features some very clear stop motion and editing techiques--this idea is really enagging for us as we could get the real band to perform this instead of using actors. But we are also considering the idea of a storyline, of friendship and spending one lastnight together before they say goodbye. We need to explour both ideas, but due to our audience researhc we now have a more clear idea of what the public likes and expects from a good music video. We hope to continue developing our ideas, drawing upon the audience research.

Questionnaire

This is the questionnaire we created to give to our potential audience for our music video. We designed this questionnaire to get a real idea of what the audiece liked and didn't

Dance Grenade

We chose a song from a local alternative band from Bourne Grammar. We are friends with some of the band mates, so this give us a particular insight in their style, influences and views on what they want from a music video. They only have a few songs but we listened to each of them and decided on Korma Chameleon to use as we loved the lyrics, the feel and the beat of the music. It was clear this one was very much our favourite.
This is the link to the song-
We got in touch with the band to see whether it was alright for us to use there song Korma Chameleon for our media production and this was the bands response...
Yo dancegrenade here. Really pleased that you have chosen us for your media project. We were planning to produce a music video for ourselves however came across several difficulties, so we are more than pleased that you have selected our band to make a music video for. It is incredibly useful for us-as an upcoming group trying to get ourselves heard by as many people as possible- as we recognise a lot of publicity is done through video sharing websites, such as; youtube. It will be a great device to appeal to the masses through modern devices.
Thanks Lucy and Emily
Much Appreciated
